Note: Volunteers provide requested pre-op and post-op visits in home or hospital, primarily responding to patient’s questions and concerns regarding life as a new laryngectomee and to demonstrate and/or discuss speaking options after laryngectomy. Volunteers will not provide medical advice but will primarily relate their experiences and coping techniques dealing with their own specific circumstances. While some laryngectomees’ post operative rehabilitation efforts may be similar, it is important to note that most have many distinct differences. The volunteers listed above have experience with all types of speech aids. One had an initial partial laryngectomy followed by a full laryngectomy a short time later. Most have experienced pre or post-op radiation treatments

We will hold informal gatherings periodically. These will primarily be a luncheon or dinner at a convenient and reasonable establishment for fellowship and to discuss ongoing activities. We expect that most of our volunteer staff will attend as well as other interested club members. Let us know if interested in attending such functions. We will not be sending out a regular newsletter but will notify all interested members on our mailing list by post card notification or phone call.

Available Services

Loan Closet – Artificial Larynx Devices for short and long term (with justification) loans.  Pre and Post- Op counseling visits- Upon request to Charlie Blair, Briefly describe situation of requesting patient. Information; amount limited but will provide what is available or suggest alternative sources. Self help materials will be provided, or ordered, after counseling visits. Our contact info is being provided to medical facilities/providers.  TeliTalk Telephone: Assist in ordering free phone device for laryngectomees. Anti- Smoking presentations; Primarily limited to schools; Requester pays for background checks if required.
